Family Time

Ages 3+

Create Intentional Moments

What is Family Time?

Family Time is very simple; it has three parts: Read, Pray, and Sing. At this age, Family Time can be as brief as five minutes. The priority is a consistent, regular time in your family's schedule. When your child reaches about three years old, it is a great time to establish a pattern of including intentional family times in your schedule to foster communication and faith formation.

Why have Family Time?

The most important aspect of Family Time is consistency. Your child will see what is most important by what you lead your family to do consistently and spend time doing regularly. It is important to have a routine of creating intentional moments that will help your family deepen relationships and have faith discussions.

Start Simply, but Simply Start

Pick a regular time, and keep it short and simple so that you can consistently create these intentional moments for your family. Don't make Family Time a big program you have to prepare for, it's as simple as:

  1. Read God's Word
You can start by reading from a Children's Bible or a Daily Devotional Book.
  2. Pray to God
A brief prayer related to applying what you read together.
  3. Sing to God
Worship God with a song. You can start with something as simple as Jesus Loves Me or The Doxology. It's ok if you don't have the best singing voice!

Intentionality this Year

  • Schedule and have regular Family Time.
    • Consistently spend time in God’s Word with your child.
    • Pray daily for and with your child.
  • Bless your child daily.

Family Worship by Donald S. Whitney

And the words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."
